Ben Gushue earned his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University, where he served as a student attorney at the Community Legal Practice Center. At the CLPC, Ben represented indigent local clients across variety of issues ranging from custody, personal and real property disputes, administrative appeals, estates, and criminal defense. Ben now brings that same love of general litigation to MichieHamlett, serving clients in a variety of different practice areas.
Before his legal career, Ben was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where he lived with his parents and three siblings. Growing up, Ben’s father impressed upon him the values of hard work and perseverance, while his mother taught him the values of diligence and compassion. To this day, Ben’s siblings always remind him to stay humble.
Ben originally moved south to attend undergrad at the University of Virginia, where he finished with majors in Government and Philosophy, as well as an unofficial minor in bartending. After graduation, Ben began a brief but illustrious career in the Charlottesville hospitality industry where he met many small business owners and coworkers who had difficulties accessing legal assistance, ultimately inspiring Ben to set out for law school with the goal of returning to Charlottesville to serve his friends, mentors, and the community at large.
In his spare time, you are likely to find Ben enjoying a meal somewhere around his beloved Charlottesville restaurant scene or at ACAC – because life is all about balance.
